Presence is a free iPhone and iPad app from Zatech that records a rehearsal, pitch or mock interview and scores how you delivered it. It opened for pre-order on the App Store on September 9, 2026 and releases on September 22, 2026. Pre-ordering costs nothing because the app itself is free, and Apple installs it on your device automatically on release day. At release it needs iOS 26.0 or later, and all the analysis happens on the device, so there is no account to make and nothing is uploaded.
What Presence does
You record yourself, with the microphone alone or with the camera too, and at release Presence scores the take across 21 measures in four groups: timing, voice, words and body language. Timing covers pace, pauses and sentence length. Voice covers intonation, vocal range, volume, tone and how strong your opening is. Words covers fillers, hedging, emphasis, absolute language, word variety and confidence. Body language, which needs the camera, covers eye contact, blink rate, expressiveness, fidgeting, gestures, posture and stability.
Every score comes with a plain-language sentence explaining it and one thing to try on the next take. Fillers, pauses and the rest are pinned to the exact second in the transcript, so you can jump to the moment instead of guessing where it happened.
Why it’s built around measuring, not encouraging
When people who practice speaking describe what they’d want from an app, the same short list keeps coming up: find my personal crutch words, show me where I rushed, flag the phrases that make me sound unsure, and don’t just count “ums.” Others are openly skeptical of a speaking score at all, asking whether a number measures communication or only the easy-to-count parts, and whether they’d simply learn to game it.
Both concerns shaped what Presence reports. Hedging (“I think”, “sort of”) and Confidence (whether statements land firmly or fade out) exist because a filler count alone misses how a sentence ends. And every number is tied to the transcript, so you can check whether the score matches what you actually heard when you played the take back, instead of taking a verdict on faith.
What pre-ordering actually means
A pre-order reserves the app before it’s released. Because Presence is free, nothing is charged at any point. On release day Apple downloads it to your device automatically, which is how the App Store’s pre-order system works for any app, and you can cancel a pre-order any time before then. If it hasn’t appeared on your device once it’s released, open the App Store and search for Presence, and it will install like any other free app.
Practice material is built in
If you have nothing prepared, the app includes a library of ready-to-read practice scripts and curated questions across many categories, from job interviews and toasts to sales pitches and difficult conversations. Read a script aloud to practice delivery, or answer a question on the spot to practice thinking out loud, and record either one the same way you’d record your own material. A Learn tab adds a library of speaking frameworks and exercises, and after each recording it suggests the ones that match whatever scored lowest.
Privacy
Recordings are analysed on the device using Apple’s on-device speech and vision frameworks. Presence has no account system, sends no audio or video to a server, and works with no internet connection. The tradeoff is the mirror image of that: as things stand, nothing is backed up off the device, so a deleted recording is gone for good.
When this isn’t the right tool
This post describes Presence as it launches, and these limits are true at release. Presence works on recordings, not live conversations, so it can’t coach you during an actual meeting or interview, only in the rehearsals before one. It runs on iPhone and iPad only, and only on iOS 26.0 or later, so an older device can’t run it. Eye contact is currently measured from head pose rather than from eye tracking, so it reflects where you were facing, not exactly where you looked.
